Tir na nOg Club Run #59

Good run - I was a bit tired from the Half Sunday but it still felt good - ran with Meri - always enjoy running with her - she never complains about running slower with me but I worry about her having to run slower - she said she was working on her cadence - I messed up the recording this run - not sure how I stopped the GPS during the run - I edited the distance and time so they are correct based on Meri's GPS

Saturday Tapir Run

Nice easy run - perfect run for the day before the NC Half - ran a mile with Bert which was a pleasure then I turned around and ran back to find the group and than ram with them to the cutoff back to the parking lot - we did a nice gathering after the run - these runs and the gatherings after have become an important part of my life - I ran very well and was looking forward to the Half Sunday - this got posted late because I thought I had lose the data but when I downloaded the 910XT to a different computer I got it back -

NC Half Marathon - Charlotte Motor Speedway

Good race and really different - the weather was sort of iffy but turned out to be pretty good - it was cooler than I thought it was going to be at the start then it tried to rain on us a couple time between mile 3 and 4 - most of the day it was very cloudy then the sun came out for me at about 10.5 miles but even as it warmed up a bit the humidity dropped and it was not so bad.  The route was defiantly different - I do not think I have ever run so many loops and two out and backs in such a small area - it was fun and challenging and with almost 2000 feet of elevation gain I am less surprised that I time was not better - I was really hopping to PR today but did not know how much climbing we were going to do - I had no problem and ran well - I ran 30 - 30 the whole race except for the first mile and a quarter - I was supposed to run the the shoe race but I forgot and just ran the first mile plus -  this was a well done and well supported race and defiantly different - I am not a racing fan but this place is very impressive - the me del is very cool also -

Tir na nOg Club Run # 57

Nice run  - ran with Meri - we had a good run - I was feeling really good and since Meri is faster than me I pushed the pace as much as I could and we ran very well - I did wear out a little at about 2.25 miles but I tried not to slow down we just took every walk break instead of skipping some - I think this is my faster run - Bert joined us after the run Jon and Ivy was also there - Bert was talking about doing the Flying Pirate and MC Historic Half and then joining Half Fanatics - that would be real cool -

Tobacco Road Half Marathon

Good run - well done event - the weather was OK but not great - it was not hot but very very humid - it was different the road stayed wet during the whole run - the race was more difficult than I expected - I was hoping to PR but came in 10 minutes too long - I am always surprised at how much climbing there is when running the on the Tobacco Trail - I had a good run and really enjoyed my run - there were lots of Galloway runners running and at the Galloway water table - it was real cool - there were also some folks from Tir na nOg also neat to see them - I was also really great to be there to watch Eric complete his 100th marathon.
On less happy note I saw a running near me stop and place his had on his chest while expressing pain - it thought he had a leg cramp but heard runner behind me yelling for a medic because a runner was down - I saw the medic race back to the down runner behind me - I have no idea if it was the runner I saw but I think it was and it was disturbing - I really hope he was OK

SlowSpokes Thursday Evening Ride #1

Good ride but slow - I knew I would be slower on Turtle3 - she does not have the assist motor - I did fine I was just slower than I thought - I was hopping to ride with the middle group but was just barely able to keep up with the slow group - I enjoyed the ride and I want to learn to ride without the motor - I know I can ride whatever distance I want it will just take me longer than it did with the motor - Turtle3 was great - rode very well and was fun to ride - I just need to get faster and until I do I will have to learn be slower and enjoy the ride

First Ride of Turtle3

My first ride on Turtle3 - this is mostly a testing and setup ride - just needed to see how she is setup and make adjustments.  She still needs a water bottle cage - I will try to get one tomorrow and install it - I also need spare tubes, CO2 carts. and infalter - she also needs a pump but I want to get one that can be used on the ground - I am looking forward to SlowSpokes ride Thursday, I just hope I can handle being slow - no assist on Turtle3.

Columbia Hot Half Marathon

Good race - this was a well done race - even though it was their first everything was nice - the only thing I saw that could be improved on was the lack of potties for the first 6 miles - the weather was great if a bit cool at the start - nice route, lots of well manned stops with water, sports drink and fruit at everyone and Gu's at every other one - it was really neat hang the Expo open before and after the race - it was only a 3.5 hour drive and Jon and I shared a room which reduced the cost - I felt good and ran well - it was too hilly for me to have a chance of a PR and beside that following some other runners I missed a turn and added .7 miles to the route - I did have a good run and recovered well after the run.

Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Half Marathon

Good race - this was a good well done event - I liked to course and our hotel was 2 blocks from my starting corral - this was a big event over 20000 runners - it had the biggest expo I have seen. It was an interesting experience as was being back in New Orleans. I had not been there for maybe 10 years. One other interesting thing was that I knew how a lot of things like street names we properly pronounced, not the usually case for me. It was fun to see the area again. The run was well done and well supported the one problem I saw was the lack of port-a-potties. Most of the places where they had them on the route there would be only one and so there were long lines which was a real pain and cause me a problem. At about mile four I got sick and needed one, the 20+ minute wait destroyed any chance of a PR on a good PR course - also I was very very uncomfortable waiting for 10 plus other runners. After the stop I recovered well and quickly so I ran several miles with out walk intervals at about miles 8 and just after I had started running my 4-1s I ran up on Bert, who was runner very well, he had passed me while waiting at the 'pottie'. I ran with Bert for while and it was so nice to run with him again that I decided to run with him for the rest of the race. I was running Bert's pace but was trying to push it just a little - I may have hurt him because he was feeling real good and was willing to push a bit also but at about 11.5 miles he had some leg cramps which slowed us down. We both did finish with Bert coming in ahead of me due having started in the corral behind me - he had wanted to run sub 4 but ran 4:01:03 - I sure hope I did not mess him up. I enjoyed the run just wish I had not gotten sick.

Princess Half Marathon - Disney World

Good race - I had a really good time and I would likely do this one again however this is not an easy rave to do. You have to get up at 2:30 catch a bus to the place where you walk to the finishing area the busses only run between 3 and 4 AM if you miss the buss there is no way to get to the start of the race, once at the finish area you have to wait until 4:30 AM to be allowed to walk another 20 minutes to the corrals. You have to be in your corral by 5 AM or you will not be allowed to enter your corral. Then you wait - the first corral started at 6 AM - I was in corral F and we started a about 6:45 AM. Once you got started it was a very nice race well planned, well supported and fun to run. Lots of support on the route and a good number to water and gue stations. There was some music and a lots of Disney character to see and get your picture taken with. I went out too case and paired for it later but I still had a good race. I did get my Coast - to - Coast medal and it is real nice-
